| The city of Tustin was founded by Columbus Tustin, a successful Philadelphia farmer gold miner who purchased 1,359 acres of land from the Santiago de Santa Ana estate in 1968 when the Old Spanish land grant was being partitioned. This is now downtown Tustin. Tustin is the third oldest city in the county and most of the original trees and foliage remain along with many of the original homes.
The 1890s saw Tustin well established as an agricultural community. Groves of apricots and walnuts gradually were replaced by valencia oranges. Tustin High School was build in 1922 and by 1927, the population topped 900 and the voters decided to incorporate. During World War II three military bases were built.
Located in central Orange county, the city of Tustin is one of the most desirable residential areas in Orange County, with large homes with big yards and tree-lined streets making this a great place to call home. Schools are excellent and there are many nice homes from $100,000 to over $5,000,000. A new golf course has been built in Tustin and shopping is convenient at the new Tustin Market Place. The city has a small town village concept. The Old Towne area has many historical buildings and Victorian houses. In fact, "Old Tustin" is an area with abundant historical residences and commercial buildings of all kinds.
